The biggest little project to come out of my Ready

The biggest little project to come out of my Readyville print shop: this letterpress printed 2024 Bluegrass stamp artwork for the United States Postal Service. If I could go back in time to show this to my Papa and little kid me as we sat in his truck and wore out Flatt & Scruggs’ Live at Vanderbilt cassette, they would be thrilled– and I am!

There have been many memorable moments since I started working on this project last fall: drawing pages of tiny sketches on @starshapedpress pica paper. Visiting Bill Monroe’s mandolin and Earl Scruggs’ banjo on lunch break at the @countrymusichof / @hatchshowprint . Tons of inspiration they may not even realize from @eastnashgrass , @hawktailband , @markthorntonguitar and @springfedrecords from working with them and watching them perform around the time I was developing imagery. Putting finishing touches on proofs in my family’s Las Piñas living room. Mailing off the final prints the weekend a tornado took the roof off my local post office.

All this yammering to say I am so inspired by the folks and music I get to be around, and am very grateful to the USPS for this opportunity. Biggest thanks to @antoniostudioa , whose kind and expert art direction steered me away from the perils of tiny design and made this such a great experience. Looking forward to sending mail with these sometime next year!

Getting to draw things for a true blue old time band incorporating a @stonesinmypathway tintype and old sheet music reference imagery is pretty much my definition of a good time– take a listen to their new singles out now on streaming platforms!

Grateful to @bvitualla and @apimidtn for putting this together– I’ll be showing a new print and some not-so-new prints (with new Tagalog subtitles). Looking forward to meeting some of the artists involved at our reception next Wednesday ☀️

@girlswritenashville descends upon Nashville again on October 8! It’s been such a treat listening to the tunes they’ve been working on, and always a pleasure to draw for.

This year’s poster design features @violetofeelya ‘s perfect boots that she got when she was in a similar program growing up and I hearrrr they’ve never left her feet since 🥾🥾
